A third wind phone journey
In October, my husband surprised me with a trip to Asheville, North Carolina from our home in East Nashville, Tennessee. I was nearly two weeks into a work leave for a worsening of my bipolar and anxiety disorders that led to suicidality, and this long-planned trip seemed a good respite from everyday life. We stayed in an amazing mid-century modern house with two-story windows and an open floor plan to be envied. I hope we can stay there again. We went to gluten-free restaurants, the Biltmore’s gardens, an Arboretum, and a store that only sold honey.
We were also able to go to two wind telephones – the one behind the Jewish center which had already been visited by the amazing Amy Dawson of My Wind Phone, and the new one in Riverside Cemetery which was placed by local Girl Scouts. We weren’t sure where it was in the cemetery but were exceedingly lucky to come upon it in the massive cemetery in about five minutes. It was just down the hill from the offices for the cemetery, and it was precious, the front being the Girl Scout logo. The page for this wind telephone is here.
A future post will deal with what happened the rest of the weekend, most of which I don’t remember, unfortunately. My situation worsened to the point that I was hospitalized for a week two days after returning home. Despite this, I’m so glad to have taken this trip and visited these telephones with my husband, but I’m hoping that we’ll be able to do a repeat in the future when I’m not wrapped in a dark cloud. Next time, I’ll have the foresight to get the coordinates for the Girl Scout phone.
Asheville is beautiful – if you get the chance, give it a visit!
